day 14

3/09/09 - thursday

Another memorable day. Met my old friend Shindy Wong, and together we went back to our primary school to see our computer teacher, Ceriene. Well, it’s a very interesting friendships that we shared together. I’m from A class, and she’s from D class (which are both top classes), and a 18 years old computer teacher at that time. Our friendship started when we were chosen to join the computer drawing competition when we were 9? Or somewhere around there. Since then everyday after school (or almost everyday) we would meet up in the computer lab (together with some other juniors), and all other places. It was a very memorable time.

Few of my remaining memories about our time spent together would be the competition trip to Perak (couldn’t remember much about it but I can remember that it was a fun trip), trip to Sarawak (the most exciting 1 as its my 1st time ever boarding a plane, and my 1st time is with my friends instead of my parents, which is pretty cool. We did all the stupid stuff together, like going into a hotel pub at night and order orange juice for ourselves, then start penning down all westlife’s song for the performer to sing, in the end they were all wrong song titles except 1), outing to KLCC park (that time the park is still new and we thought that the play ground is as big as the world lol. And we had KFC picnic there). The scariest moment in my memory is when I cause a super deep cut on Shindy’s fingers by pulling the rotan away from her hand. So much blood, and I freak out like shit. But thank god she never get mad at me, and we’re still pretty cool friend =)

The last time we went back to school (yes its always the 2 of us) was a few years after we’ve left it. The computer room hasn’t change much, but the peeps had. From the shortest dude I’ve transformed into the tallest among us 3, and Shindy changed her look pretty much, and Ceriene… well, has been stagnant for the past 8 years XD

A time of refreshing old memories, a time to update new information. Also a time to indulge in canteen food. Its just a simple bowl of mee soup but the taste can never be found in anywhere else. It’s the primary school taste that makes it so yummy. The same old school, but everything shrunk. Ops, I’ve grown bigger instead.

Our gathering ended with a casual bye, nothing dramatic. We meet up once a few years anyway. 2 years of abroad studies, wouldn’t seem so long compare to the time we’ve known each other. A unique bond that we’ve shared, and the friendship always last. Till then, the next time we meet up again, it will be the same again, yet different in many perspectives. I’ll belanja them some fizzy cola candies next time =)

Day 16

1/9/09 Tuesday

The greatest gift a son can get from his parents is a word of affirmation. “we’re not worried about him, he is able to take care of himself”. A parent’s trust, to let the son go.

The greatest reward a student can get from his teacher is a word of compliment. “well done, i’m proud of you”. A teacher’s pride, from the success of her student.

I’ve visited my tuition teacher today. More than a tuition teacher to me, she’s someone who tutor my life and my growth as well. I started knowing her since i was twelve, and she has been my teacher since then till i was 17. She was known for her fierce-ness. I eye-witnessed it with my own eye. There was this one incident i remembered the most of my childhood tuition life, that she actually took down 2 little boys pants in front of the class as punishment for their consistent laziness. I trembled with fear, and so do the rest of the class. 1 particular boy did not wear his underwear, and his butt is facing us. I think they must have childhood trauma since then. A few hundred canes at a go is just the regular, doing squad till our legs sore(for the next 5 days or so) is another thing we usually face. Till form 5. Without change.

The other side of her less known character, is her love for her student. Behind every cane there is a purpose, a purpose for her student to do well in their studies. Besides giving us mountain-full of homework and abit of teaching (which sometimes i think its quite lousy lol), she always tells us story, story on how to live lives. Story on how to face the world, story about the world. Those are the things, along with other things, that helped me grow through my childhood age.

Seeing her today, she has changed a lot. Physically, and mentally. She’s a lot more slim, and subtle in thoughts. She stop canning her student, and changed her method of teaching to adapt to the society changes. I’m actually very glad that i live in the age where she still cane like mad. Think about it, rod of discipline cannot be away from a child’s body, for that is a rod that leads the way to righteousness. Children have to be discipline, and the pain on the body will correct the ways of thinking, and eliminate bad characters.

Today those words of affirmation came from her mouth, and i am glad. But i want to tell you today, whoever that is that reads my blog (so far i only know fung as my no.1 supporter of my blog lol), to tell you, and all the people out there, that the only 1 we should try to please, is Jesus. And when we do, all the rest follows, our lives as a student to a teacher, as a son to the parents, we will also please them. “Well done, my good and faithful servant” from the mouth of Jesus is the greatest and highest honour one can get on earth and in heaven.

Well, i’ve not earn that speech from our Lord yet, for i know that i’m way far from the standard God requires. For i sinned and fall repeatedly, deserving nothing but death. Yet He save me from death, and gave me life. He give second chance for us to try again.  Jesus is the cornerstone of our life, the centre and the most important. When our walk with god stumble, all other areas of our life crumble.

day 19

29/8/09 saturday

Yesterday was a lot. Today left a few of us. The usual few. The closest few (tho chan not here today, but he too is close to my heart as a buddy). The very last yamcha session that we gonna have in the near future. Still maintaining our usual coolness, no farewell crying, no speech. Just normal talks about future, what we gonna do and where we gonna go. Normal talks about the past, all the naughty things we’ve done, and how we’ve screwed things up, yet laugh past it. The only thing we wanna forget, is now. That the time is near.

This day is specially dedicated to my secondary schl bunch, all the babi-babi that i’ve mix around with for the past 8 years. 8 years, a very long period of time, but doesn’t feel long enough.  They’re a bunch of friends i’ve got to know, after going through the pain of separation with my primary schl friends, back in 2002. Well, they turn out to be a pretty good bunch to me. In fact, they are the ones, in a way or another, that shaped me to become who i am today.

All the small details in life that keeps playing in my head, never fails to bring a smile on my face. How we ponteng class or break the school rules together, the little crushes and romance with our fellow friends, how we think of different games to play during koko instead of the normal stuff, bullying our poor classmates, cheated in exam, new year visitation year after year, went through graduation, and puff… time is up.

Not that we’re not gonna meet ever again after this, but it is a symbolic moment, because the next time we would meet again, everything will be different. Our lives are headed in different directions, career paths, who knows if anyone would get married early, and i will come back, stepping into a new phase of life, my career. The feeling of growing up is indescribable, its like something you long for when you’re young, but think it came too soon when it does .Things will never be the same again.

My definition of friendship, is that 10 years down the road, we’re still able to recognise each other when we walk down the street, have a cup of tea together, talk about olden days. In such ways do friendships last for a lifetime. Different people leaves different footprints in my life, some deeper than the other. Nonetheless, all have changed my life. So to all my friends, thank you, and take care.

21/8/09

(14 – 21 august)

Sabah is an awesome place to visit!! Despite the not so good conference that douglas and i experienced, the rest was a blast! well, leave the sad things behind, i’ll only remember the good times =)

1st day – just recovered from my sickness, walk around the town to do some shopping. Visit the museum and heritage site together with ruth, which is quite a nice place in general. Tried coconut pudding in the evening on the way to our long-waited seafood dinner! And its crazy cheap! Went to a private beach after dinner which is a very beautiful place, almost bang some buffalos, almost got chased by dogs. Wonderful XD

2nd day - The 1st time ever snorkelling was so much fun! The water is crystal clear and you can actually see fishes and corals all around. The horizon canot be distinguished from the sea, and the view is superb. I can only give glory to our Lord that created all these wonderful things on earth. Had dinner in a nice german restaurant, met ruth friends (all nice people) and also a she-male waitress. Interesting lol. Visited the tallest building in sabah (which is not really that tall) and have a 5 minutes walk in their rotating pub. Ice cream on the way back home.

3rd day – the BIG day! Our challenge to climb the tallest mountain in south east asia!! We took the longer trail – mesilau trail, and turn out that this is a super beautiful trail. The view on the way up is indescribable. I’ve found a place that looks like those places in the lord of the ring. They look unreal but they actually exist. Well, the beauty of the scenery is the only reward for us to climb the mountain. I feel like dying wanting to get to our check point, which is 3000 m up the mountain. We started our journey at 9. Reached the rest house at 6. 9 hours of non stop walking/climbing. And its not even near the end.

4th day – wake up at 2 in the morning. Its CRAZY COLD!! And we have to start climbing in the dark. Thank god all the clothes and wind breaker i carry up is not a waste of effort. I put everything on me, and use my towel to cover my face to minimize dehydration from my mouth (due to the strong wind). And today is harder than yesterday. The way up is crazy. On the way up you see people giving up and start taking the U turn, it weaken my faith. My leg hurts, my hand is shaking, my nose cant stop dripping, i feel like giving in. And the only thing that keeps you from going is the will to reach the top, the will to survive, the will to finish the race. Being a regular hiker (hills around my housing area) this is nothing of imagination. It is hard, at least for me. At 5.30 we’ve finally reach the peak!! (its call the Low’s peak, which is quite ironic, since its freaking high up here) sitting in the cold, we waited for the sun rise, and it was magnificent. No words can describe the beauty; no camera can capture the awesomeness of the scene. Only our eyes can be the witness, and our memory to last.

We’re crazy fast on the way down. At 9 after breakfast, we rush down the mountain (which took us 9 hours to go up) and reach the timpohon gate (which is the shorter trail) before noon. I thank god we took the other trail up because this trail there’s nothing much to see, where else the mesilau trail its full of wonderful flora, and i manage to have a glimpse of orang utan and other birdie.

Met new friends throughout the hike, a student couple from UK. A very friendly couple, we manage to make friends rather quickly. we went back to KK together in our car, had a good laugh about everything on the way back. We’ll definitely meet again in UK =)

Had dinner and movie with ruth. Last night in KK, enjoy everything we can. Also assembled a water channelling system in their room (basically its just a connection of Styrofoam cut into shapes) to give them temporary solution for their crazy waterfall like water leakage, every time after heavy rain. Apparently it manage to impress the girls pretty much (which honestly i think its a lousy creation, having limited resources and time to build that thing), and they awarded us by not giving us blanket to sleep at night. T.T

5th day – after breakfast drop by another nice hotel to see the view and take some pictures. Rush to the airport coz we’re almost late. I never feel so excited chasing for a bus or a train before, coz mayb because its a flight. Lost our immigration past before this, almost needed to make a police report about it. But thank god they let us pass through anyway. And here ends our wonderful experience of sabah trip. Attach photos later. Still processing lol.

day 41

7/8/09 friday

waking up today with abit of smile on my face,

coz bunny is coming home today;

doing everything in a faster pace,

just so i can reach to school faster than she would stay;

(well my poetic level stop right here…)

reached at 2ish, still got time to get a small flower for her. A little surprise i think would be best. Luckily i brought along the latest national geographic, as well as my sabah presentation script, so that 2 hours wont be wasted under the sun.

She received my call, but doesnt sound as happy as i’d thought;

all these while i have not been wise,

to realise that a surprise is easy to give, but a pleasent 1 is not;

A pleasent surprise is a pre-informed surprise.

Maybe she had plans, and i’d come at the wrong timing,

And she said she’d expected something else;

Yet she still say thank you for helping,

but her mind is somewhere else.

went jamming (the 2nd last 1 b4 leaving to sabah), pretty screwed things up. well, today marks the lowest point in recent years. god help me.
